As per a DBMR report, indoor plants market is flourishing and by 2030, it is expected to hit USD 27.51 Billion. This presents an opportunity to anyone to set up an online store, earn money and become financially free.
The opportunity like this hardly existed until a few decades ago.
There are buyers looking for specific plant types which may not be available locally. An online store helps bring them home the plants they want. There are certain limitations while buying from local market. You can fill this gap and benefit.
How to Dropship Plants and Make Money?
To dropship plants, I will share 4 easy steps that anybody can follow and start a plant dropshipping store.
1. How to Do Market Research
To dropship plants, the first step is to do market research to find a product that is more in demand with less competition.
To find a product, you can do online research to find out which plants are popular in the places where you want to start your online business to dropship plants.
One such online place is Google search, For example, you could simply type “Buy plants” in Google search and it will show you popular plants that you can dropship (only after scanning them). You can make a note of these plants for reference and keep them handy so that you can finally narrow down the products’ list and decide which ones you ultimately want to sell.
You can also go to Google Trends to find keywords interests over time. This will give you an idea whether people are searching for the specific product. In the above graph, you can see I searched for “Fiddle Leaf Fig” for United States for Past 12 months results and I can see the interest for this item has remained high in the last 12 months.
While high-search ranking indicates it is a high-potential product, you must consider other factors also like pricing and competition
Remember, you must not rush through this process. This is a very important part. You should ensure you are not picking up a wrong product.
Once you have picked the right products, it is now time to find suppliers who sell those products (plants).
Excited? Let’s continue…
2. How to Find a Dropshipping Supplier?
To find suppliers, it is best to go to local markets and search for them. Another good source could be online directories like SaleHoo. You can also do online search for find suppliers but scan them well. Trade shows can also be a good place to find suppliers.
Irrespective of where you find your dropshipping suppliers for plants, you need to partner up with only those suppliers who can deliver the item within 3-5 days. This is a standard timeline that buyers are generally willing to wait for. You should also see their packaging is good enough to protect the plants while in transit.
When you do a business, disputes do arise. Your supplier should be proactive in resolving disputes if any arises. After all customer satisfaction is key to success for any business.
Once you have set your mind on a supplier and negotiated the pricing, the next step is to build an online store.
3. How to Build an Online Store?
To build an online store you need to book a domain. A domain is your store’s address on the internet. To pick a domain name, you need not think too much. All you need to ensure is the name should be easy to remember and related to your product. An example could be – BuyIndoorPlants.com
I purchased my domain from NameCheap.
Along with this domain, you also need hosting (space where you can put your files on the internet). When you build an online store, you would need space to put images and files on the internet. Once you have a domain name + hosting, the next thing should excite you – an online store.
You need not learn coding for this. Shopify allows you to build a store on their platform which is easy. The downside is Shopify has monthly subscription charges. Alternatively, you can go to Fiverr and place an order to build a WooCommerce (replacement for Shopify) online store for as little as $50-$100. The upside of WooCommerce is, it does not have any monthly subscription charges.
The store should be ready within 24-78 hours.
Now, what should be the next step? All seems set, right?
Not yet!
Now the most important part is Marketing.
4. How to Market Your Product Digitally?
Marketing is the backbone for any business. If your marketing is poor, even the best products will not sell.
You gotta promote your items.
For marketing, you should go with digital marketing campaigns. While there are multiple free and paid marketing channels, I would suggest a very simple yet effective strategy.
You should search for YouTube/Instagram influencers who are from your niche, and see the number of followers and how active the influencer is. If all seems good, reach out to them asking how much they will take for a dedicated video/post and go with them.
It works wonders! You will be reaching your target audience and every single penny go after the target audience only.
Additionally, you could also run Google Ad and Facebook Ad.
